The rise of Fashion related shows/movies

There are many fashion related TV shows and movies that are coming out these days. Some of the TV shows and movies are Coco before Chanel, September Issue, America’s Next top Model, The City and many more. It seems that these days, this new fashion related story line is gaining a lot of popularity. All of these shows pertain to high fashion, really expensive clothing most people cannot afford. Many women like watching these shows because it is almost like window shopping, seeing very boutique like clothing on beautiful women. I feel that many women love watching shows like this because they put themselves as the star in the show and they are now living the lifestyle of the rich or just wearing very expensive.
I feel like this idea goes back to hegemony. Where the high class sets the standard on what is valuable and worthy in society. The clothes that are shown may only take $50 dollars to make but the cost is $1,000. It is only this expensive because the rich put a certain value on designers who are worth noting and therefore they are allowed to over-price their products. Even if these products are over-priced the rich will still purchase them because it makes a statement about their wealth. And the people, who do not have enough money to purchase the products, only admire them on the side. In society, the high class sets values on certain things making them more admirable and expensive.
