What do Ad's Mean?
Looking through a magazine at my friends house, I came across a Juicy Couture ad. The ad, had a young girl and a young boy drinking out of a perfume bottle with straws in their mouth. Now, I know Juicy Couture sells clothing, bags, accessories and perfumes, but what is this advertisement selling? There is nothing on the advertisement telling people to buy the perfume and it doesn't even state the name of the perfume. What they are doing is selling an image. This product is for the rich and the upper class. Juicy Couture is selling there winter wonderland, princess image with the perfect looking boy and girl. They look rich and have no worries about anything in the real world. The background is dreamy white and there label is a crown. Stating a status and all they have to do is sip on this $60 dollar bottle that is suppose to taste rich, delicious and smell great. I guess it taste great and smells great as well? The perfume is so great, I guess it even taste good.
Today, in our society everyone wants to be like the rich. A lot of ad's focus on being chic, classy and elegant. If it does not contain these factors it is not cool and acceptable in our society. Every young girls dream is now to shop at Bloomingdale's, Intermix, and Barney Co. All the advertisements in fashion magazine's, many young girls read, all have high end fashion ad's in them. With Oscar de la Renta, Escada, Balenciaga, Dolce and Gabana etc. Many young women are willing to take out loans to buy these products to be accepted in society. Advertisements shape the way we think about products and put a fixed image in our heads on what we should look like in public.
-Saw the ad in a vogue magazine, I couldn't find the same image online but this gives a similar feel.
