MTA: We Care About Your Safety.

As much as our NYC subway system is convenient (taking us to far away places pretty easily), one can argue it is actually exploiting us. Advertisements tell us that the MTA cares about our safety, and our well-being, but why are the staff so rude and sometimes non-existent? Why are the subway platforms, escalators, and stations extremely dirty? Rats find the subway stations more comforting than we do. "We care about safety. YOUR safety" is the slogan, sending a direct message to the audience (as learned in the previous week), but unfortunately, the money is not where the mouth is.

If they really cared about us at all, they would provide good services, and helpful staff for any customer who may be new to the area or unfamiliar with subways. They would not close the doors on people who are getting in, or allow so much trash and litter to accumulate on escalators. (34th street B,D,F,V escalator's going down are covered with so much trash, you can barely see the black steps)

The trains never come on time, fares just keep rising, and the smell in subway stations can suffocate you. The MTA give us a message of "false consciousness" that we buy into. We allow ourselves to trust the subway system, and depend on it, yet it is unpredictable, unreliable, and even unsafe sometimes. Here are some funny images that provoke the irony of our subway system.
