Advertisments influence us!

While analyzing and finding out the hidden messages in ads, I started to think about what messages American Apparel ads are putting out to the public. I am always startled when coming across ad's like these. These ads are obviously not selling clothes. It is sending a message to many young women, that sexual and provocative postures are the way to act in America. American Apparel has become a popular clothes brand for many young women and men. Plain v-neck shirts and sweaters have become popular for many people. Did the provocative ads sell to the young men and women? Were these young American inspired
to take on how American should be acting and dressing.

As we talked about in class, images shape the way we think. Culture and main stream media put certain values and perspectives in our head, allowing us to believe acting in a sexual manner is right and the way to live as an American. This is the way fashion ads are changing. Today, I was on the subway and saw an Armani exchange ad’s in the subway. These ads, as well, seemed very sexual and the models were positioned in a very seductive manner. Apparel ad’s these days all seem sexual and that is not questioned in the public eye at all. No one is protesting against these provocative ads. They are just accepted in main stream media today. Advertisements are so influential that they shape the mindset of teenagers and young adults.
